How to make Indian Chai?

In India chai is what coffee is, in the west. Be it a rainy day or an extremely hot day, chai is the fuel for the Indians. Originated from the Chinese word for Tea – “Cha”, it has become popular around the world as “Indian chai”. In this article, we will share how to make Indian chai in at home in less than 10 minutes.

I and Leticia personally love chai, especially in winters mornings and evenings. The flavours of ginger and scent of cardamom are something to relish with our Indian Chai.

Let’s make our Indian Chai in less than 10 minutes.

Ingredients for 2:

  • 1.5 teaspoon Black Tea/ Teabag (not recommended)
  • Sugar/Sugar-free according to your taste
  • 1.25 cup of water
  • 3/4 cup of milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 2 cardamom

Step by step guide on How To Make Indian Chai :

Step 1. Add 1 full cup of water to a pan and put it on the gas stove.

Step 2: Add 1.5 teaspoon of black tea to water. You can also use the tea bag, just cut the bag and add the tea powder to the water. In India, we preferably use Tata Tea Gold, which is extremely delicious and rich in terms of Darjeeling tea leaves.

Step 3: Grate the ginger and crush the cardamom with the help of a crusher or if you have cardamom powder then it’s the best.

Step 4: Once you see the water starting to boil, add sugar to it according to your taste, and then add 3/4 cup of milk to the pan.

Step 5: Once you see the milk is well mixed with the water, and the colour turns more brownish, add the grated ginger and cardamom powder.

Step 6: Let the tea get more cooked and turn a little dark brown. Make sure you keep gas on simmer, otherwise it may boil out of the pan.

Step 7: Using a sieve, pour the chai in your two cups and your Indian chai is ready to be served.
